Is there a local skeptics in the pub type meeting?

If there is one I would like to know about it … Asuming that there is not one, I have a small group that is looking at starting a variation on this type of meeting. I thought we could play a short video or pod cast or have a live speaker on a topic that the group finds interresting. The goal would be to socialize but also to get a better or more complete knowledge about science (not to debate/argue about policy). Many bars would not be able to accommodate having a video/tv/speaker – I own a winery about 20 min south of York and I am willing to host the meeting or be part of a rotation of locations. If you are interested contact me – we are thinking of a preliminary meeting in the next week or 2.

We used to have one run by one of our members, but she found it difficult to keep it going (Trouble with finding regular locations).  We would be interested in starting one up in conjunction with this organization.  Please "Contact Us" and we'll see if we can work something out.

http://www.twitter.com/sitp provides basic help for people looking to start chapters in the UK which may need adapting but could still be of use to you.

If you do start a group, email me (digest [at] skeptic.org.uk) and I'll add the details to the official listing at http://www.skeptic.org.uk/pub

I did not see your post right away so sorry this reply is tardy. I was thinking of an initial kickoff/ planning meeting on 2/21 or 2/27. Could anyone from your group make that?
My initial thought was to have a 10-20 minute video or podcast each meeting on a topic of interest to the group and then the typical skeptics in the pub type socializing. I wanted to see if other people had other or better ideas.
Also since there are science related talks and meetups in Baltimore by different groups…presumably there are similar happenings in York and Harrisburg etc at the colleges -it would be nice to know what was happening in the next month so people could see if there was something they might like to participate in.

My winery is at 1090 Jordan sawmill Rd parkton md 21120 and you can contact me at rgalbin at gmail dot com

We are planning on a second meeting on 3/20 at 7pm. Next month, We will move the meeting date to not be opposite chambersberg.

The topic is wine and beer: food skillfully preserved through one of mankinds oldest partnerships with another species. One motivation for this topic is: I attended an alcohol server training course and the instructor did not think there was ANY food value to beer and wine.
I will address this and other issues as well as giving some history on the topic of beer and wine and how the production of beer and wine benefitted from changes in technology and caused changes in technology.

See you at 1090 Jordan sawmill Rd Parkton Md. 21120!

We are planning on a 4 th meeting on 5/8 at 7pm.

We have someone that wants to talk about some of the IT changes that are happening in the health industry

In case you missed it – check out http://www.sciencedaily.com/re…..161235.htm

A team of computer scientists built a random number generater by creating a vaccuum and then detecting the subatomic/elementary particals that wink in and out of existance.  The artical contains a URL that you get real time lists of numbers from the device from the device if you are interested.  (If you are a creationist and do not like evolution… how do you handle the the fact that the universe not completely stable/ perfect and here is a list of random numbers that prove it?)Surprised

See you at 1090 Jordan Sawmill Rd Parkton Md. 21120!
